Kadıköy’de Bir Akşam: İskeleden Moda’ya Kısa Bir TurAn Evening in Kadıköy: A Walk from the Pier to Moda
Hop on a ferry from the European side and twenty minutes later you're in Kadıköy. This route runs from the smells of the market to sunset in Moda, roughly three kilometres. Allow an hour and a half to two hours with stops.

İskelede başla
Eminönü, Karaköy ya da Beşiktaş'tan kalkan vapurlar yaklaşık yirmi dakikada Kadıköy iskelesine yanaşır. Yolculuk başlı başına bir İstanbul deneyimi: güvertede çay iç, martıları izle, arkanda kalan tarihi yarımadaya bak. İstanbulkart'ın varsa ayrıca bilet almana gerek yok.
- Kadıköy iskelesi. Vapurdan inince meydanı karşıya geç ve çarşı yönüne, yokuş yukarı yürü.
- Çarşı sokakları. Balıkçılar, manavlar, turşucular ve şarküteriler yan yana. Acele etme, tadım yapmak serbest.
- Altıyol ve Boğa heykeli. Kadıköy'ün en bilinen buluşma noktası. Buradan Bahariye Caddesi'ne gir.
- Bahariye Caddesi. Araç trafiğine kapalı, dükkânlarla dolu uzun bir cadde. Süreyya Operası da bu caddede.
- Moda sahili.
Çarşıdan yukarı çıkınca Altıyol'a varırsın.

Start at the pier
Ferries from Eminönü, Karaköy and Beşiktaş reach the Kadıköy pier in about twenty minutes. The crossing is an Istanbul experience in itself: have a tea on deck, watch the gulls and look back at the historic peninsula. If you have an Istanbulkart, you don't need a separate ticket.
- Kadıköy pier. Step off the ferry, cross the square and head uphill towards the market.
- The market streets. Fishmongers, greengrocers, pickle shops and delis side by side. Take your time; tasting is welcome.
- Altıyol and the Bull statue. Kadıköy's best-known meeting point. From here, turn onto Bahariye Street.
- Bahariye Street. A long, car-free street lined with shops. The Süreyya Opera House is here too.
- The Moda shore. At the end of the street, walk down to Moda and along the water for sunset.
The market streets
The Kadıköy market is the neighbourhood's kitchen. Stalls are stacked with the day's fish, jars of pickles in every colour, cheeses and spices, and most traders are happy to let you taste. Late afternoon is the liveliest time, as locals shop on their way home.
The Bull and Bahariye
Walk up from the market and you reach Altıyol. The bronze bull in the middle is where people in Kadıköy arrange to meet. Turn onto Bahariye Street and wander between bookshops, cafés and stores, and look out for the façade of the Süreyya Opera House halfway along.
Sunset in Moda
At the end of Bahariye, carry on towards Moda. In the early evening the Moda shore fills with locals sitting on the grass and strolling the seafront path, with the skyline of the historic peninsula across the water. To catch the sunset, be by the water at least half an hour before the sun goes down.
Dinner
You'll be hungry by the end. Head back to central Kadıköy and stop by Kadıköy Kanatçısı, where wings and kebabs are cooked to order over the embers of a wood fire. For two, share the buffalo and BBQ wings; for a group, put the 1 kg wings or the mixed grill for two in the middle of the table.
